Being in a community with providers who share similar lived experiences and identities can cultivate healing and enhance our well-being.

Navigating a profession steeped in perfectionism and ableism can be exhausting and take a toll on our mental and physical health.  people, disabled people, and people who hold marginalized identities are particularly impacted by the systems of oppression.  As professionals, we are often trained in a competitive environment where perfectionism is encouraged. We are often expected to be:
  • Focused
  • Efficient
  • Organized
  • All-knowing
  • Compliant
  • “Appear professional”
These high expectations reflect ableist values and can be especially detrimental for neurodivergent folks who are often left feeling like they are failing.

You are not failing – the system is failing you!

You deserve support!

There is a lack of support for professionals with brain differences and people who identify as neurodivergent. Workspaces fail to accommodate the needs of neurodivergent people which leads to masking, overcompensating, isolation and burnout. Imposing neurotypical standards on neurodivergent professionals is oppressive. You are not alone; so many providers face similar challenges.
This is why we want to build a community of neurodivergent RDs and other professionals who support each other.

We want to build a community where neurodivergent people are
celebrated!

Introducing the Neurodivergent Nest, a space where neurodivergent folks can:

  • Unmask and invite authenticity
  • Openly discuss challenges
  • Build a strong sense of community
  • Reduce feelings of shame and imposter syndrome
  • Feel less isolated and take up space!
This peer-led support group will be a space where hierarchies are broken down and your facilitators show up as fellow neurodivergent humans. They will not be there to educate, to offer advice, or to be “experts,” but instead to contribute their lived experience and to help co-create a space that feels brave and compassionate.

This group operates from an anti-oppressive lens and strives to be fat positive, and LGBTQ+ affirming.

Self-diagnosis is valid!

We welcome all people who feel their brain works differently than what is deemed “typical.” This includes, but is not limited to, autistics, ADHDers, HSP, BPD and people with mental illness. We strongly believe neurodivergence doesn’t need to be “professionally diagnosed” to be valid. We recognize that there is diversity within neurodiversity, that all humans are unique and have different ways of existing. We honour the intersectionality of all people.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Are CPEUs offered?

No, this offering is a peer support group and not a continuing education opportunity. This is a gathering of neurodivergent people supporting one another, not a clinical group.

What is your refund policy?

The success of our peer support group lies in the trust and commitment shown by our members. When we continually show up to support one another, we build and strengthen a good group dynamic. This dynamic suffers when members are absent – we’re counting on each other to be there. For this reason, no refunds will be issued.

Do I have to turn on my video?

We understand that joining new spaces can be intimidating. You may turn off your video or use chat. There is no obligation to engage, you can also listen in and participate how you feel comfortable. You know your needs best!

I’m not openly neurodivergent, can I still register?

Yes, we respect people’s decision to disclose or not disclose their diagnosis. We understand that being able to be open about our neurodivergence is a privilege. We respect the confidentiality of others’ shares and process. And group members will be asked to do the same.

Meet Co-Facilitator, Josée Sovinsky (she/her)

Hello! I’m Josée Sovinsky, a thin, white, queer cis woman with ADHD. I am part of the “late diagnosis” club, having only discovered that I am an ADHDer as an adult. Having this newfound understanding has helped me to develop self-compassion and has allowed me to explore new tools to work with my brain instead of against it. It has also led to an increased exploration of the impact of ableism and sanism on neurodivergent people, and how this intersects with other identities they hold. As a Registered Dietitian and Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), I am interested in understanding how professionals often perpetuate this oppression, and how neurodivergent professionals have been harmed by discriminatory education and workplaces practices.

I also love to perform and am involved in community musical theatre. I love reading historical and queer fiction, re-watching episodes of Star Trek, baking French Canadian desserts, and discovering new flavours of tea.

I live and work in Ottawa, Ontario, which is located on the traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg People.

Meet Co-Facilitator, Naureen Hunani

I want to create a world where neurodivergent people can flourish!

Hello, I'm Naureen Hunani, a late-diagnosed, neurodivergent, small fat, brown cis woman. I'm a mom of two neurodivergent children, and it is my parenting journey that led me to investigate my brain differences. It has been incredibly validating and liberating to have a better understanding of my brain and its unique needs and strengths.

We live in a society that is so oppressive towards those who are different. Many neurodivergent people feel unsafe to be authentic and be visible. But we all deserve to be seen! For this reason, community is so important to me; I am passionate about creating spaces where neurodivergent people can connect, unmask, share their lived experiences and feel understood.

Professionally, I'm a Registered Dietitian in private practice and the founder of RDs for Neurodiversity. I have always been a deep thinker and a question-asker! I am passionate about supporting neurodivergent children and families in my practice through a trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming lens. During my free time, I love going on nature walks and listening to music. I'm a fan of tight hugs and super-flavourful food; I am definitely a sensory seeker!
